Our Mission
Our Mission:
Northwest Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity works to build a stronger community by creating affordable housing in partnership with volunteers and responsible families in need.
- NW Metro Atlanta Habitat is committed to its goal of building simple, decent, affordable housing by working in partnership with God's people in need. Using volunteer labor and donated funds and materials, NW Metro Atlanta Habitat builds or rehabilitates houses and sells them to responsible families in need at no profit with no interest charged.
- We believe that every person deserves a simple and decent place in which to live and grow into all that God intends for them to be.
- Families are invited to apply for homeownership based on three criteria: need for housing, a willingness to partner with NW Metro Atlanta Habitat and an ability to repay a no-interest mortgage; all homeowner families go through an extensive qualification process.
- We work with people of all faiths and people of no faith.
- We have built and renovated over 316 houses in Cobb County and Douglas County since 1986.
History
Cobb County Habitat for Humanity, Inc. was formally affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International on April 1, 1986. Of the 1,700 affiliates in the country, Cobb Habitat is recognized as one of the top 35 affiliates in the nation. Cobb Habitat is often acknowledged by Habitat for Humanity International as an innovative force within the Habitat for Humanity community.
In 2008, NW Metro Atlanta Habitat was created by the merger of Cobb County Habitat with Douglas County Habitat (affiliated in 1991), and expansion into Paulding County to enhance homeownership opportunities in all three communities.
How We Do it
Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit, financed with affordable, no-interest loans. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are recycled into a revolving fund that is used to help build more houses.
Family Selection
Families qualify for homeownership based on three criteria:
- a need for housing
- a willingness to partner with NW Metro Atlanta Habitat
- an ability to repay a no-interest mortgage
If your family, or a family you know, is in need of decent, affordable housing, please look at our Interested in applying for a home? page.
Donations
NW Metro Atlanta Habitat needs donations of many types. We are always looking for land, in-kind items, financial support and volunteers. Remember that when you make a financial donation to NW Metro Atlanta Habitat, your dollar goes to help not only families in Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Counties, but families across the globe. We tithe to Habitat for Humanity International and build "a house for a house." To date, we have sent over $643,168 to Uganda and other countries. That money has helped build 322 homes internationally.
